Cosmico is Chris and Anne's home above Mill Creek: a secluded cabin in a redwood grove, with doors open to the trees, a plunge pool at dusk, and Healdsburg just beyond the grove.

The story of the house

Built around the creek

Chris and Anne found the house in a hailstorm in 2017. They planned to stay through maternity leave and ended up making it home.

Cosmico sits in a redwood grove above Mill Creek, about seven minutes from downtown Healdsburg. The water runs year-round. When Chris and Anne travel, they open the doors and let others live here too.

Redwood and stone

Inside, with the doors open

The center of the house is one long indoor-outdoor room: redwood overhead, stone at the hearth, and glass opening toward the deck.

Meals gather around the table. Records play through the restored vintage Marantz system. Evenings settle in by the fire, with the creek below.

The deck, the plunge pool, the creek

Most of the day happens on the deck with the doors open. The plunge pool is heated, which makes it as good at seven in the morning as it is after dark.

The creek runs below. You hear it more than you see it.

Rooms apart

The Bure

The Bure was the garage. It's now a separate sleeping space with its own outdoor shower, a few steps from the main cabin through the redwoods.

Between the two buildings, four people can be together all evening and still not share a wall.

Back to the trees

Seven minutes from Healdsburg

Downtown Healdsburg is about seven minutes away, and you'd never know it. From the deck, the town feels much farther away.

Doreen looks after Cosmico when Chris and Anne are away—she gets the house ready and is close by if you need anything.
